James Burch was born 11 July 1816 in Barstown, KY and died 21 December 1884 in Polk County, TX. The son of Samuel L. Burch and Dorothea Brown. He left Bullitt County for TX with his parents and siblings in late 1835. Fought for Texas Independence in the Battle of San Jacinto, March 1836.
